  Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route Climb

  8 Days / 7 Nights Itinerary

This route has a moderate slope, making it less difficult to climb. It is the most popular way up Kilimanjaro, and is the only route with emergency evacuation service. Also, it is the only route with huts, having dormitory and dining rooms.

Day 1

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to mid-level hotel in Arusha.

Day 2

Breakfast, drive from your hotel to Marangu gate, we will spend about two hours for registration, payments of fees and final parking.  Start climbing through dense semi-tropical to the first hut- Mandara hut (9,000ft). Dinner and an overnight stay at Mandara hut, B.L.D.

Day 3

Breakfast, ascend through the alpine meadow, and grassland and moorland to Horombo hut (12,000ft). Both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks can be viewed easily on the way. Dinner and an overnight stay at Horombo hut, B.L.D.

Day 4

Today we spend the acclimatization day at Horombo by hiking to a nearby Mawenzi and the surrounding and come back the hut for hot lunch, Horombo, B.L.D

Day 5

Breakfast, further ascending to Kibo hut (15,000ft). The landscape becomes very stony and eroded. Spectacular mountain vegetation like giant cactus, groundswell and lobelia appear on the way. Dinner and an overnight stay at Kibo hut, B.L.D.

Day 6

Wake up at midnight, and after a snack, proceed to the summit through Gilmanís point (18,640ft). It is about 5-6hours and 1-2 hours from Kibo hut to Gilmanís point and from Gilmanís point to Uhuru Peak (19,340ft) respectively. Thus reaching the peak in the early morning of the fifth day and start descending after picture taking on the top to Horombo hut for diner and an overnight after a short break at Kibo hut, B.L.D.

Day 7

Breakfast, Descend from Horombo hut to Marangu gate.

Day 8

Transfer to the airport for your return flight.

bullet Medical Equipment which can be rented well in advance for the following costs: $250/group for hyperbaric chamber, $210/group for an emergency Oxygen cylinder and $140/group for a stretcher. Please note these prices include a porter to carry the equipment.
bullet Portable toilets: If you do not want to use public toilets which some of climbers have been complaining about being dirty, then add $110/person (or $180/group) for a portable toilet. Kindly, let us know at the time you make a booking and not afterwards.
